Grape Nutrition - Nutrition Absorption 2

Apr 25, 2016

Factors affecting nutrient availability/absorption from soil

The availability of nutrients from soil is affected by several factors and these factors are categorized into two groups:

1. Environmental factors

2. Edaphic factors

1. Environmental factors: Environment is a complex of climate and abiotic factors that influence the survival, growth and development of plant. Grapes respond to a nunber of elements of environment which includes solar radiation, temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind, season, etc.

2. Edaphic factors

The availability and supply of nutrient to the plant is not only depends upon the amount of nutrients in the soil, but also on the several factors such as organic matter, microorganism activity, structure, texture, moisture content, pH and fertility status of soil.

soil organic matter content: C:N ratio gives an indication of fertility status of soil. The C:N ratio of nurmal soils is around 10:1. It means soil contains 10 units of carbon and 1 unit of nitrogen. If soil has higher concentration of easily decomposable substance like protein (low C;N ratio) then the availabiity of nutrients will be more as compared to lignin (C:N ratio) like organic substance.
